Course Description:

Around 1 in 5 households in the UK have someone living with Asthma. This is approximately 5.4 million people. Of which 1.1 million are children and 4.3 million are adults. Around 1,000 people die each year, in the UK, from Asthma.  When you consider that 75% of hospital admissions and 90% of deaths caused by Asthma are preventable, it shows there is a huge need for training.

This course will help you understand what Asthma is, its pathology and prevalence, genetic characteristics, triggers, and treatment and management of the condition.

At the end of the course there is a written assessment to evidence learning. This training can be tailored to the bespoke needs of the customer. Please speak to a member of our team for further details.

  • Introduction to Asthma

    • What is Asthma

    • Pathology of Asthma

    • Prevalence of Asthma

  • Risk factors for developing Asthma

    • Genetic Characteristics

    • Occupational Exposures

    • Environmental Exposures

  • Prevention:

    • Asthma Triggers – explore the various triggers and how we can reduce risk and/or prevent these.

  • Clinical Management:

    • Treatment recommendations based on:

      • Severity

      • Control

      • Responsiveness

  • Managing Asthma:

    • Asthma management goals:

      • Achieve and maintain control of symptoms

      • Maintain normal activity levels, including exercise

      • Maintain pulmonary function as close to normal levels as possible

      • Prevent asthma exacerbations

      • Avoid adverse effects from asthma medications

      • Prevent asthma mortality.

At the end of the training session, there is a written assessment to evidence the learning of the attendees.
