Course Description:

Improve your awareness and understanding of diabetes and blood sugar monitoring. This training includes a practical competency sign-ff to ensure that all delegates are trained, assessed, and competent to undertake blood sugar monitoring.

Anyone who works in supporting individuals with diabetes, either diet, tablet and/or insulin controlled will benefit from this training. We will cover the different types of diabetes, the causes, and treatments for hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia, and DKA. 

With blood sugar monitoring you will learn the correct procedures of blood glucose monitoring, infection control, and health and safety including sharps procedures.

  • Understand what goes wrong

  • Dietary recommendations

• Complications of Diabetes:

  • Understand causes and treatment for: 

    • Hypoglycaemia

    • Hyperglycaemia

    • DKA

  • Identify emergencies and how to deal with such circumstances

  • Identify complications that can be avoided

• Blood Sugar Monitoring:

  • Establish the correct procedures of blood glucose monitoring including infection control procedures, health and safety including sharps procedures

  • Interpretation of results

  • Identify when to seek further assistance

  • Practical session to include competency sign off
