Alice Nicholls

AliceNicholls Alice will be giving a talk on how autism helps and hinders her professional abilities. How she is exploring the experiences of others through art and how that can bring together a community for understanding.

Background:

I was diagnosed Autistic during lockdown after both my nephews, two of my sisters, and my mother. My son's are also now awaiting diagnosis. I have been a tattoo artist for 15 years and while we were locked down I rediscovered my love for portrait art. I started my masters degree in Fine Art as a way to process my diagnosis and began the In Your Hands project to discover the stories and experiences of autistic people in my local community. The project grew and reached people all over the world and the attention of celebrity voices who took part. The aim was to interview people and draw their hands in response to their stories. I plan to hold a final exhibition of artwork and donate any money from sales to local charity Autism Anglia.
