Eximius: We have received the Outstanding Dementia Training Award

The award recognises excellence in dementia training and our team’s exceptional commitment and dedication to improving the lives of others.

For everyone at Eximius, this recognition means a great deal. Providing exceptional live-in care requires more than practical skills and knowledge. It requires empathy, patience and a genuine understanding of the individual behind the diagnosis and this is particularly important when supporting someone living with dementia.

Experiencing dementia from a different perspective

A key part of our commitment to dementia education has been our partnership with Training2Care and the opportunity to bring immersive dementia training to our carers.

Through the Dementia Bus experience, our team has been able to take part in immersive and virtual reality-based training designed to help participants gain an insight into some of the challenges a person living with dementia may experience.

Rather than simply learning about dementia in a classroom, immersive training encourages carers to consider everyday situations from the perspective of the person receiving care.

It can prompt important questions: How might an unfamiliar environment feel? How could changes in perception affect an everyday task? How might someone respond when they are confused, overwhelmed or unable to communicate what they need?

That change in perspective is incredibly valuable.

Turning understanding into better care

At Eximius, we believe excellent dementia care starts with seeing the person, not the condition.

Every person living with dementia has their own personality, preferences, routines, memories and life experiences. The way dementia affects one individual can also be very different from the way it affects another.

High-quality training helps our carers approach those differences with greater understanding and confidence. Just as importantly, experiential training can help build empathy encouraging carers to think not only about what a person is doing, but why they may be responding in a particular way.

That understanding supports the compassionate, respectful and person-centred approach we want to be at the heart of every Eximius care relationship.

Why dementia training matters in live-in care

Live-in carers become an important part of a person’s everyday life. They are there for the familiar routines and the unexpected moments, providing reassurance, companionship and practical support within the comfort of the person’s own home.

For someone living with dementia, that continuity can be especially important.

We therefore want our carers to have training that goes beyond simply completing a course. We want learning that encourages curiosity, builds confidence and helps carers continually consider the world from the perspective of the person they are supporting.

Our work with Training2Care and the Dementia Bus experience forms part of that commitment.

It recognises a team that embraces learning, asks questions and continually strives to provide the very best standard of care.
