Charlie Draper
With nearly two decades of experience supporting people living with dementia, I have spent the past 15 years specialising in young onset dementia. My journey began in the NHS, and since 2012, I’ve worked with the charity Younger People with Dementia, where I’ve been fortunate to help shape services, resources, and initiatives for this often-overlooked group.
Along the way, I’ve also been fortunate enough to help co create three reminiscence books designed specifically for younger people with dementia and a children’s story that helps young minds understand the symptoms of young onset dementia in an age-appropriate way. I’ve also contributed to journals and participated in a range of innovative projects — from a group specifically for children impacted by a parent’s diagnosis, to more recent work focusing on addressing health inequalities in dementia care and research on the topic.
Passionate about raising both awareness, I’ve taken on challenges including trekking the Sahara, skydiving, running two half marathons, and competing in triathlons — all in support of supporting people affected by young onset dementia.

Speaker Session Title: “If not now, when”
Join us for a screening of an award-winning short film exploring the realities of young onset dementia.
This powerful film invites us to stay curious, challenge assumptions, and open our minds to the lived experiences of those diagnosed with young onset dementia.
After the screening, there will be an opportunity to reflect on any questions or thoughts that may have emerged, and to learn more about how Younger People with Dementia (YPWD) is making a difference across Berkshire, Surrey Heath, North East Hampshire, and Farnham — offering meaningful support and innovative approaches within local communities.
