Dementia Interpreter Course E-Learning
Throughout this video online course, you will complete multiple modules on various topics including definitions, communication, changes that can be made, body language, and more. There are also experiential training modules and finally a summary and conclusion that will make you understand that completing the course is just the start of your journey.
We want you to see what it is like to experience the difficulties people with dementia have. We take away the ability to speak, see, hear, and use body language to force people to find new ways of communicating, just like those with dementia must. It is not easy but the first-hand experience of feeling the same isolation, frustration, and anxiety as those that have dementia is key to understanding that communication is at the very heart of dementia care.
Completing the course means that you will become a registered Dementia Interpreter Level 1. You get access to the Dementia Interpreters forum where you create your profile to start your journey on helping translate the Language of Dementia. Over the next 12 months or so you will be provided with additional learning resources and complete the stages to move from Level 1 to Level 4. You can, and are encouraged to, get involved in multiple questions that have been asked. Where you offer a translation that is accepted as a definition you will be published in the Dementia Dictionary and given the recognition of helping others to understand the Language of Dementia and re-connect with their loved ones who have dementia.
Once you have completed the course you will then be able to become a registered Dementia Interpreter and get access to so many amazing benefits and opportunities such as:
• Improve the lives of the millions of people affected by dementia around the world
• Being able to network with thousands of interpreters from around the world
