On the item.tv we believe that activities need to be at the heart of every care environment, hospital setting, dementia cafe and so on.  Active minds really do help to relieve boredom and encourage interaction with others.  Having the ability to identify activities for individuals and also groups is so important for the care industry and care homes have invested an immense amount of money in providing meaningful activity sessions.

But how do we know what activities are available? Can we get families and visitors to be involved and reconnecting them with their loved ones? The simple answer is yes, but only if we help the staff, families and visitors to understand that activities are an important time of the day and also what activities are available for them to be involved in.

The weekly Activity Board is a simple and effective way to announce to all of when activities would be taking place and also whether they would be able to get involved.

Glenn Knight CEO of Training 2 CARE Group and speaker at many dementia events comments "Everyone is individual and therefore activities need to be built around the person and people rather then what is convenient for a care provider.  Individual activities are so important in the care industry but we also have to encourage interaction between the people that we support as well as families and visitors.  It is so important that we encourage group activity sessions and advertise these to the family members to allow them to be involved of they want to.  Sometimes, seeing a loved one smiling with a group of friends is the best way to take some of the guilt that families inevitably experience when a loved one lives in communal living.  These activity boards are the best way to tell people how to participate in a very simple but environmental attractive way.  A must for all care homes."
